Why a Decor Blog?

As most of you know, I love decorating & shopping for decor. I can say without any hesitation that between Target, Fred Meyer, Amazon & Pier 1, I have spent entirely too much money. There have been few times in my life that I have walked into that store, or any decorating store, and didn’t feel some sense of inspiration to decorate. My husband gives me a cap on how often I’m allowed to change the throw pillows, but one of the many joys of owning a business is that I can redecorate as much as my heart desires.

I also really enjoy making inexpensive things look great & unique.

I have had several people ask me what my inspiration for the shop was, so I decided the best way to break it down would be in a blog post! If you are interested in some of the things I did at the shop, then keep reading. If not – maybe the next post will be better for you.

Please keep in mind I am no professional decorator, this post is just a matter of opinion and little inside into how I decided to decorate.

Luxury on a Budget:

Something I learned about myself at a very young age was that I have very expensive tastes. Though at times that is frustrating, it has forced me to get creative in my endeavors!

One of my “expensive” loves is large mirrors. I LOVE mirrors. They are a magical decor item for a couple of reasons.

Reason #1: If placed correctly they can move natural light around a room and brighten it up.

Reason #2: They can make a room look larger or taller if done correctly.

I searched for a large statement mirror for weeks to fill up this wall, and couldn’t find anything under $300, which wasn’t in the budget. I found these mirrors at

Target for 5.99 and they gave me the exact look I was after for a fraction of the price!

In case you have never been in our Spa before, we have quite a few treatment rooms and I needed these for 5 of the rooms.  I wish you could have seen the gentleman’s face when I asked for 15 mirrors…it was rather comical!

As I was uploading this photo, I realized that everything used for decor in this room was purchased at Target. It is unfortunately very clear that I have an addiction.

Pops not Explosions:

I know I know I know, I might be the only person out there who likes everything in black and white. That being said, I do have a good reason for that. Two actually.

Styles & trends change and when that happens, the last thing I want to do is have to redecorate an entire space.

The second reason I love neutral colors is that when done correctly, adding pops of colors makes it more dramatic. Example: If you make everything in a space colorful, your eyes don’t know where to look. If everything is neutral and you add in a bright color with pillows are accept pieces your eyes are naturally drawn to them.

It’s a proven fact that too much of anything is bad for you. The same goes for color!

Bigger is Better:

I know this not a popular opinion. Gallery walls are all the rave, and yes when they are done correctly they can be fantastic. I personally am a fan of having one large statement piece, over a bunch of little ones. Now, please keep in mind I am not a professional decorator, so I have no experience to back this. It is simply a matter of opinion.

In case you can’t tell I enjoy the minimalistic decor. I find it much more refreshing to be around and a lot more dramatic.

To accomplish this at the shop

I used outdoor plants from target to create a clean modern look that added life to the room. They make great statements without adding clutter.

We also have some large decor pieces from Design Concepts, LLC. They are a locally owned business here in Alaska & they make incredible steel art and signs.
