Microblading is gaining popularity as an awesome alternative to filling in your eyebrows every day, or, the scarier idea of having them tattooed.

I have seen some excellent tattooed eyebrows on people who have lost their hair, so it is possible, but for most of us it’s probably not the best solution; will you be excited to have a faded black tattoo underneath your white eyebrow hairs when you’re 80? I’m thinkin not.  I think this is the only time I might agree with the “Oh my, what’s going to happen when you’re old?! That’s permanent you know??!” people.  In all other instances, yes.  They’re permanent and someday I’ll be an old person with tattoos and the world will not end.

Moving on.  Microblading is a happy medium because it’s a semi-permanent solution.  They will fade over time; how long depends on things like how you take care of your skin, how much time you spend in the sun, etc. but if you’re an obsessive filler-inner like me, you’ll save precious getting ready time in the morning!

PLEASE! I’m begging you, do some research.  When selecting an artist you want to make sure you can see a selection of their healed work.  Don’t go with the cheapest person because they’re cheap.  I know I said it’s semi-permanent, but that still means you won’t be able to wash them off in a couple days if the inexperienced or untalented artist didn’t do some A+ work and you’re not happy.

In Alaska, of course, our options are pretty limited.  I chose to see Jessica Block (@blockpartytattoos) who works at Clean Slate Tattoo in Wasilla.  Here’s another red flag I’d like to wave: tattooing and microblading are not the same thing.  Jessica, a tattoo artist, also specializes in microblading.  She was trained in this particular skill – it is not something a tattoo artist should just assume they’re capable of and if you feel any hesitation about the person you’re working with, go with your gut.  I trust her, I’ve seen her work, I know that she is just as talented at microblading as she is at tattoos.

Kelsie took pictures and videoed me getting them done and I’m super excited to share the video with you. I intended to do that today, but it’s taking approximately a million and a half years to upload to YouTube, so you’re going to have to be patient 🙂
