Alright folks, we are back with a controversial subject!

The C word….Che…..Chemm…Chemmicc….CHEMICAL. I know….it’s hard to say. Here’s the deal though, just because it is a chemical does NOT mean that is bad for you.

Now, I know this may go against everything you believe in, but let me explain:

  1. H2O, commonly referred to as water…..is 2 Chemicals! Hydrogen & Oxygen
    1. This also means that you, your best friend, your husband, your children and all the humans you love are chemicals.
  2. The air your breathe…..Oxygen, a Chemical
  3. Lactic Acid-The acid your body produces during vigorous chemicals.

Which brings me to my next point. I could quite possibly make a photo album of the terrified faces we see, every time we ask if you have ever tried a chemical peel. Now, though that may be funny, it also means we aren’t educating enough.

Chemicals to remember:

AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acid’s)

What:

Natural Acid typically found in food, and it water-soluble. (Dissolves in water)

Why:

Work’s on skin’s surface, and are water soluble. They’re generally used for normal to dry, sun-damaged skin, due to their ability to increase moisture in the skin.

How:

They promote shedding of dry skin from the surface, and work to strength the lower levels of the skin, which are responsible for firmness. (Simple Explanation)

Types:

  1. Glycolic Acid: Derived from Sugarcane.
  2. Citric Acid: derived from, yup you guessed it, citrus fruits
  3. Mandelic Acid: Derived from Almonds
  4. Lactic Acid: Derived from dairy products, and fermented fruits and veggies
  5. Tartaric Acid: grapes
  6. Malic Acid- Apples & Cherries

BHA’s (Beta Hydroxy Acid’s)

What:

Derived from the bark of willow tree Oil-Soluable Acid (Dissolves in Oil)

Why:

Work’s on skin’s surface AND in the pore because they are oil-soluble.

How:

Used to clean out clogged & congested pores blemishes and bumps.

Types:

  1. Salicylic Acid

SO! Now that you know what these things are, you will have a better understanding of the peels we use, the products we suggest, and why we use these things!

Chemical Peel’s We Use:

PCA Sensi Peel:

Strengthen and brighten the skin while providing anti-inflammatory, anti-acne and antibacterial action. Great option for those who stuggle with Rosacea

PCA Peel w/ Hydroquinone

Used to lift discoloration and pigment from the skin, and clear the skin of breakouts. It is intended to clear acne prone skin, and improve sun damaged skin. This peel does require a patch test before hand as some people have sensitivities to HQ.

So to wrap this up, not all C Words are bad….

Though the term chemical peel sounds a tid bit intimidating, it’s really not. They are great for preventing premature signs of aging, fine lines, acne, discoloration and skin texture.

Keep in mind though, this is a very summarized version of a chemical peel. If you want more information, all of our estheticians are certified and trained in these products, and can give you all of the information you could possibly imagine!

Let me know if this was helpful, and I can do more things like this. I hope this makes you love peels as much as I do!

xoxo
