Unlike shaving, sugaring pulls the hair from the root, resulting in longer-lasting smooth skin! Sugaring is all natural, and the most gentle hair removal option at our day spa. However, there is still a possibility that the area can be sensitive or not particularly enjoy the treatment.

Is Waxing the Same as Sugaring?

Waxing and sugaring have the same goal: to remove hair. However, waxing and sugaring do have a few key differences.  During a wax, wax is appled in the direction of the hair growth and removed in the opposite direction of your hair growth. While sugaring applies the sugar in the opposite direction of your hair growth, and removes in the direction of the hair growth.

What does this mean?

Because the wax is pulled in the opposite direction of the hair growth, the hair follicles can be ripped in half, leaving behind the half and sometimes causes more irritation and less hair-free days. Sugar removes in the direction of the hair growth and often results in a less agitated experience. Sugaring is also better at adhering or sticking to mostly just the the hair, where wax will stick to your hair and skin.

Preparing for Your Sugaring Appointment

To best prepare for your sugaring appointment, make sure your hair is the appropriate length. Typically 1/4″ long is best for most sugaring appointments. Below is a list of how long it usually takes to grow your hair out to the proper length. A couple days before your appointment, you will want to lightly exfoliate before your appointment using a washcloth or shower mitt to help prevent dry skin. For 24-48 hours before your appointment avoid tanning, retinoid creams, and caffeine or alcohol. It’s also best to come in with comfortable clothing!
